National Arts Council (NAC) develops and supports the arts in Singapore in various different ways. The NAC supports and gives exposure to strong artists and arts groups who span all art forms. This gives them a chance to showcase their artworks and thus, impressing the audiences.

Financial Grants 

The NAC provides grants for organizations and projects relating to the arts. They provide mentoring and financial support to young people who want to start their own creative arts projects. An example of such project that the NAC conducted was the Arts@Work initiative. This project brings arts programmes into the workplace so that working adults have more opportunities to engage in the arts.


Talent and Professional Development

The NAC recognizes and celebrates their best artists who have worked tirelessly in the arts by providing scholarships, awards, and competitions. Most young artists might feel scared to take the first step to showcase their artworks in fear of not having a medium. This opens up their opportunities for creative development. As a result, this ended up as one of the ways to release their pent-up creativity. These competitions are made to support and empower young and emerging artists and also the arts groups.

Opinion

The NAC did a great job in developing and supporting the arts in Singapore by providing various grants and developments for artists to develop their creativity and promote art in Singapore. In turn, they are proving a medium for them. Most people might have an interest in arts, however, they might not have the means to continue their hobby and advance it into a career. Therefore, their contributions are not fully utilized if this goes on. Thus, NAC's competitions and grants helps these young artists. 

In addition, NAC also supports the arts events by organizing various activities such as the Arts in Your Neighborhood (AYN), Singapore Arts Week and Arts@Work. The NAC provides sustainable funding infrastructure in support of the arts community to diverse and distinctive arts that inspire our people to position Singapore globally.

1.1 Placing Home: Woodlands Arts in Your Neighborhood (AYN) is an arts experiences that are available for everyone at their doorsteps. It is an initiative by the National Arts Council (NAC). These arts experiences are by established artists and art groups and are held at various spaces across the islands. AYN is held twice a year in March and in November. This time, Woodlands is selected as the anchor neighborhood for the staging of this event.  Objectives AYN's objective is simple. This event aims to provide enriching arts experiences for everyone right at their doorstep. It consists of various interactive arts programmes that are available to everyone in Singapore.
